Rauw Alejandro
In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the most-streamed song at the time within one year. This mixture of reggaeton, and pop music did not just draw an interest to the music genre but also Latin music as a whole. In 2015, there were only two predominantly Spanish-language songs in Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's commercial success in 2017, 19 songs mainly made in Spanish reached the top 100. This figure grew to 41 in 2020. Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito was released in 2017. Soon after, popular artistes began to collaborate with reggaeton artists. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna collaborated with Maluma on Medellin. The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton performers were lamenting their genre's shift towards the mainstream but a new generation namely Rauw Alejandro wanted to keep reggaeton evolving. His style often included elements of electronic dance music along with other styles.
